If you are interested in a uniformed law enforcement position that will enable you to be an active participant in our partnership with the community, this position is for you! Applicants must be of good character, 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma and a valid Virginia driver’s license. Candidates must have no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. Ideal candidates will possess prior law enforcement experience and/or college level course work in Criminal Justice or a related field. A written examination will be conducted, followed by an oral interview session at a later date. Selected individuals will be required to undergo a comprehensive background investigation. Individuals who have tattoos that are visible while wearing the official uniform of the Smithfield Police Department are not eligible for consideration. The parameters, of this restriction are defined as tattoos visible below the uniform short-sleeve cut and below the mid-thigh.
Salary Range: $34,121 to $52,888 depending on qualifications with excellent benefits including: Virginia State Retirement (LEOS), and Full Health Care Coverage.
Testing will be held at Main Street Baptist Church, 517 Main Street, Smithfield, Virginia on June 4, 2016, starting promptly at 8:30 a.m.
